2023

The Groundbreaking of Fakfak Fertilizer Industrial Project

The groundbreaking of the national strategic project in the Fakfak fertilizer industrial area was carried out by Indonesian President Joko Widodo through a groundbreaking ceremonial on November 23, 2023. This factory will have a 1.15 million tons production capacity per year for urea fertilizer and 825,000 tons per year for ammonia. The construction of fertilizer factory in West Papua aims to increase urea and ammonia production capacity and is expected to support national food security, as well as developing the economy in Eastern Indonesia.

2020-2023

Construction Project of Ammonium Nitrate Plant

Product development and new businesses are conducted by diversifying from natural gas-based products, specifically toward the conversion of ammonia into nitric acid and ammonium nitrate. The company, through its subsidiary PT Kaltim Ammonium Nitrate (KAN), a joint venture with PT Dahana Investama Corp (a subsidiary of Dahana), signed a contract on December 18, 2019, for the construction of a Nitric Acid Plant with a capacity of 60,000 MTPY and an Ammonium Nitrate Plant with a capacity of 75,000 MTPY in the industrial area of PT Kaltim Industrial Estate (KIE), scheduled for completion in 2022.

1977

Establishment of Pupuk Kaltim

Initially, the plant was planned to be built on a ship to facilitate the exploration of gas feedstock. The government appointed Pertamina to run the project. Due to technical considerations, the construction of the plant was transferred to land and the project was handled by the Minister of Trade with the assistance of the Directorate General of Chemical Industry of the Ministry of Industry and the Director of Processing and Petrochemicals of Pertamina in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 43 of 1975 dated November 29, 1975. Later, the Government assigned the Minister of Industry to complete the construction project based on Presidential Decree No. 39 of 1976 dated August 29, 1976. On December 7, 1977, Pupuk Kaltim was oficially established based on Notarial Deed of Yanuar Hamid, SH No. 15 of 1977.

2020-2021

Construction of the NPK Raw Materials Bulk Storage

To provide operational support and maintain the continuity of raw materials for the NPK Plant, the company is currently constructing bulk raw material storage with a capacity of 45,000 tons. This will provide storage of bulk KCl and bulk DAP raw materials and be equipped with conveyor facilities from the jetty to the storage. The project was effectively started on January 17, 2020, and was scheduled for completion in 2021.

2018-2020

Construction of the Palm Oil Mill

New product and business development is conducted through down-streaming, particularly for palm oil-based products. The company, through its subsidiary PT Kalimantan Agro Nusantara (Kalianusa), a joint venture with PT Perkebunan Nusantara XIII, built a Palm Oil Mill in Rantau Pulung District, East Kutai Regency with a capacity of 30 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB)/hour and capable of producing 40,000 tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) per year. Construction commenced in 2018 and the mill began commercial operations in 2020.

2016

Construction of the Rail Mounted Harbor Crane in Jetty-4 (Tursina)

To support and expedite the loading/unloading process at Jetty-4, Pupuk Kaltim added a Rail Mounted Harbor Crane (RMHC) facility with a capacity of 500 MTPH, built between 2014 and 2016. Construction was initiated by considering the company’s development plan, which includes several new plants that require enhanced jetty capacity.

2015

Operation of Plant-5

Constructed in 2011, Plant-5 was inaugurated on November 19, 2015, by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. With this plant, Pupuk Kaltim achieved production capacities for the Urea and Ammonia plants of 3.435 million tons per year and 2.740 million tons per year, respectively. The high spirit of Pupuk Kaltim’s dedication continues to produce the best work for the nation. Pupuk Kaltim has 5 (five) Urea plants, 5 (five) Ammonia plants, 3 (three) NPK Blending plants, 1 (one) NPK Fusion plant, and 1 (one) Coal Boiler plant.

2015

Construction of the Coal Warehouse

To meet the company’s needs and secure the continuity of the Plant-5 steam supply, Pupuk Kaltim built coal storage with a capacity of 30,000 tons during 2015–2016. The coal storage is used to accommodate the steam needs of several plants and ensure the continued reliability of the coal boiler.

2015-2017

Construction of Urea Bulk Storage (UBS) VI

Construction of UBS VI with a capacity of 100,000 tons and equipped with conveyor system facilities took place from 2015 to 2017. The warehouse was built to meet Pupuk Kaltim’s urea storage needs, especially due to the additional production from Pupuk Kaltim’s newest plant, Plant-5, with a capacity of 2.740 million tons per year.

2011 - 2014

Development of Plant 5

Given its existence for more than 30 years, Plant 1 is the Company's top priority in the revitalization program. In 2011, the construction of Plant 5 project was carried out, which is the irst realization of the Fertilizer Industry Revitalization Program in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 2 of 2010. This revitalization also aims to increase the production capacity of urea and ammonia.

In 2013, the Company operated a coal boiler, and in the following year Pupuk Kaltim also took over the ammonia plant from PT Kaltim Pasiik Amoniak (KPA) through an asset transfer process conducted in Jakarta on March 13, 2014. Currently, the operation of the former KPA Plant together with POPKA is under one coordination of the Head of Work Unit under the name of Plant 1A.

1989 - 2002

Construction of Plant 3, POPKA (UREA 1A) and Plant 4

Plant 3 was inaugurated on April 4, 1989, and in 1999, Indonesia's irst granulated urea plant, POPKA, was established as a plant optimization project to utilize excess ammonia and CO2 from existing plants. In 2002, the high-tech and energy-eficient Plant 4 was established to produce granulated urea.

1979-1984

Construction of Plant 1 and Plant 2

The construction project of Plant 1 began in 1979 and continued with the construction of Plant 2 in 1982. Both factories were inaugurated simultaneously on October 29, 1984 by President Soeharto.
